Spirometrya preventative screening tool used to assess lung health.

Take Control of Your Respiratory HealthA spirometry test at RMEDY Health measures the amount of air that a person can inhale and exhale and the speed at which they can do so.

Did you know? An estimated 1.6 million Canadians live with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)?

In fact, prior to being diagnosed 56% of patients did not know what COPD was.

At RMEDY Health we understand the importance of preventative screening with spirometry as an objective measure of lung function.

What is it?

During the test, patients are asked to take a deep breath and then exhale as forcefully and quickly as possible into the spirometer. This process is repeated several times to obtain accurate measurements of lung capacity and function.

Who is it for?

The Spirometry test at RMEDY Health is a preventative screening tool used to assess lung health. This examination is often ordered for patients who are experiencing wheezing, shortness of breath or those who have a pre-existing medical conditions such as:

-Asthma

-Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

-Emphysema (lung tissue damage)

-Lung fibrosis

The Benefits of a Spirometry Test:

TO DIAGNOSE

Spirometry is used to diagnose serious respiratory conditions that can cause breathing difficulties and reduced lung function. Early detection of these conditions can lead to expedited treatments and often better outcomes.

TO ASSESS

Spirometry can be used to assess a person’s lung function and identify any abnormalities. It can also help determine the severity of a lung condition and track changes over time.

TO EVALUATE

Spirometry can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments for respiratory conditions. It can help determine if medications or other treatments are improving lung function and reducing symptoms.

TO MONITOR

If you have a respiratory condition or are at risk of developing one, regular spirometry tests may be recommended to monitor our lung health and detect any changes early.

Glossary

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): This is a disease of the lungs where the lungs become inflated, often as a result of tobacco smoke.
  • Asthma: a respiratory condition marked by spasms in the air passages of the lungs -causing difficulty breathing
  • Emphysema: develops over time and involves the gradual damage of lung tissue
  • Lung fibrosis: is a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred. This thickened, stiff tissue makes it more difficult for your lungs to work properly.
